There is no single way to experience chaos.
It can be a period of intense momentum, a disruption that forces you to stop, or the tension between the structure you know and the direction you want to take. Sometimes you recognize it while it’s happening. Other times, you only understand what it meant once you’re on the other side.
For CHAOS: Vol. I, three creatives take the stage to tell their own stories of navigating periods that didn’t have a simple or predictable path through them. Their experiences are very different, and so are the ways they responded.
The evening also marks the launch of CHAOS Vol. I, the first half of Ottawa Design Club’s ninth zine. Featuring work from artists and creatives exploring chaos through illustration, photography, writing, design and experimentation, the publication brings together many different interpretations of what chaos can be. The speaker event continues that conversation live, with three personal stories that approach the theme from completely different perspectives.
Because maybe the interesting thing about chaos is how differently we make sense of it.

Willemijn Bunskoek is the Executive Director of Apartment613, a community-powered media platform that connects thousands of people each month to Ottawa's arts, culture and local stories. Originally from the Netherlands, she has spent more than a decade working across the cultural sector, from festivals and events to a book publisher and a neighbourhood storytelling project in Rotterdam. Along the way, she's worked in concept development, strategy, fundraising and community work, and she especially enjoys developing programs and systems that work for people and grassroots organizations. She's curious about how the arts, culture and cities shape each other, and enjoys a good conversation, especially one where people get to talk about what matters most to them. Outside of work, she loves getting creative with local wool and is always learning a new craft.

Yolande Laroche is a Canadian Taiwanese singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and music educator based in Gatineau, Quebec. She holds a BMus from University of Ottawa and teaches private music lessons and electronic music workshops. As a songwriter and performer, she bridges her classical training with contemporary innovation.
While actively playing with her group projects Pony Girl (Paper Bag Records) and KAY-fayb (with Polaris nominated members of FET.NAT Pierre-Luc Clément and Linsey Wellman), she is also exploring all avenues of avant-pop with her solo project Orchidae. She released her debut album True Beginning with Birthday Cake Records in April 2025.
For her more experimental work, she produces under her own name, Yolande Laroche, and is set to release a dark electronic dance album in 2027 that explores themes of feminine rage and fear paralysis.
Izzy Poirier is a creative director and brand architect who has spent her career asking how far an idea can go. With a background in fine arts, she approaches design conceptually, moving between strategy, identity, editorial design and experiences rather than treating them as separate disciplines. Over more than 15 years, that approach has shaped a multi-award-winning independent practice and a career built around making ideas tangible in unexpected ways. Izzy is also the founder and creative director of Ottawa Design Club, where she has turned that same curiosity toward community and independent publishing. She has led the Club through nine zines, each pushing the format somewhere different through print, materials, storytelling and experience. For Izzy, the interesting part of design has never been making something look good. It’s figuring out what the idea could become.
