A Zine for Ottawa’s (and beyond) Creative Community

Call for submissions:

The Ottawa Design Club presents it’s second zine Call for submissions.
Issue #2 Call for submissions: “Pop Culture

We are now accepting submissions for Zine 0002! Our theme for this edition will be ‘Pop Culture’. We are intentionally not defining the theme and are looking for original work to help us capture what ‘Pop Culture’ could be.

We invite you to send us various forms of submissions for this edition - visual, written or auditory even(!). Our vision is to collect submissions that will inspire, intrigue and motivate.

Centered around our theme of ‘Pop Culture’, we are looking for pieces that sheds light onto various aspects of what you think Pop Culture is. Tell a story, share your thoughts, experiences or mood in the form of writing, photography, poetry, pottery, etc.

Here are some ideas of media we are looking to include in this edition:

  • Design
  • Illustration
  • Photography
  • Visual arts
  • Folk (Pottery, Wood, Glass, etc.)
  • Poetry (spoken or written)
  • Music*
  • Video*
*For auditory submissions, we can use a QR code to direct readers to your piece.

Be creative you can mix the categories too. E.g. photo essay with images and short accompanying paragraph.

This list is not exhaustive, so please get in touch should you be interested in contributing with another form of submission. If it’s creative, we are interested!

Please note we will only accept submissions that are not infringed under any copyright laws (i.e. previously submitted work elsewhere).

Zine FAQs

Q: Can I submit my work if I live outside of Ottawa?
A: Yes! The pandemic has allowed us to expand our club radius. Belonging to the club isn't about a postal code, but about a feeling ;)

Q: Can I submit my work even if I was featured in the previous zine?
A: Yes, if you feel like your work is a good fit, we want to see it!

Q: I have multiple series of works that would be a good fit for this issue, can I submit more than one submission?
A: Of course! As long as you follow all the requirements mentioned above.

Q: Can I submit my work anonymously?
A: Yes, but we recommend using a pseudonym. We would still need your contact information and mailing address if you're selected to be featured.
